A corrupt judge once freed a sadistic killer who preyed on the wealthy and skinned his victims alive. One October night, the killer took the judge’s wife, Mary - returning her to their doorstep by morning, lifeless and without skin. Driven mad, the judge fled to an old farm in Galena, Maryland, taking Mary’s body with him. In 1972, he was accused of kidnapping a woman - locals say he was searching for skin to restore his beloved wife. Some believe he buried her on the farm. Others say she’s still inside.

The Barn Of Torture

The judge hired local twin boys to work the farm. Burned in a fire at age seven and hidden away by their mother, the twins grew up isolated and angry. The judge saw opportunity where others saw disfigurement. Whispers say he used the boys to lure wealthy victims back to the farm. If their skin wasn’t “fit” for his plans, the twins were allowed to finish the job. Locals still claim that on quiet nights, screams and strange noises echo from the fields.

This has got to be the best haunted attraction in the country! 301 Devil’s Playground was absolutely terrifying from start to finish. The actors, makeup, and sets were out of this world — everything looked like you were actually walking through hell. I honestly thought I was going to pass out at one point, but a crew member was kind enough to sit with me until I felt okay to continue. That shows how professional and caring the staff are, even in such an extreme environment. My boyfriend is not easy to scare, and even he was completely shaken! I ended up throwing up four times from the scares alone — that’s how intense it was. If you’re looking for an experience that pushes your limits, this is the place. The actors, crew, and set design are phenomenal. I wouldn’t recommend anywhere else but here!

The biggest is there's a big difference between being scared and actually unsafe- tripping hazards are not jump scares. Props hanging to crowds spaces that can swing and hit you and do real damage should be replaced with something softer. Having moving floors in black out rooms is going to get someone actually hurt. I'm here to be scared not run an obstacle course. Moving floor scares aren't unheard of, but repeated use of them in long hallways without hand rails of any kind, on top of being expected to move extremely quickly, just isn't reasonable or safe. Previous haunts I have been to use these for one or two steps and are plenty effective. Many of the tripping hazards weren't related to these, and simply a matter of sudden inclines, poorly contracted ramps, and uneven transitions in fully dark places Besides being a shambling mass of OSHA violations, the quality of the scares were poor. If you are not afraid of the dark it's not scary. Black out was overused and basically just an excuse to hide how cheap a lot of the props were. They also rush you through faster than any haunted house I have ever been to- the pace set by the staff at the start left me winded. Between these I wasn't able to really see any of the rooms in the first attraction, despite seeming like they had elaborate set ups. Supposedly there was some kind of story line, I have no idea what it is because in just walking through nearly pitch black rooms full of loud noises. There was an obvious evil farm theme for most but also there were suddenly clowns in the middle? Jumpscares were overused- they're a necessity in any haunted house, but it was about the same 3 ones over an over, you get numb to the airguns after the 4th let alone 8th, especially with how frequent they are. They don't let you rest or instill any kind of anticipation, there's never time for things to set in because they are constantly setting things off and rushing you through, so you don't really have time for anything to register. The vast majority of actors didn't do anything. They at most just meandered creepily, no improve and the interaction would be so brief it wouldn't be scary. Most were just glorified jumpscares and nothing else. This isn't a small scale show, we're talking 50+ people who are all just... In low budget mask costumes and kind of there. There were two playing creepy litter girls who were actually acting, with actual dialogue and actually engaging with people, but because they were the only two it just set a contrast for how low effort everything else was. This is the first haunted house I have ever left early. After being hit in the face by hanging props and coming close to falling and hurting myself multiple times I decided I was not confident it was safe enough for me to continue, and certainly not worth the risk given any immersion was completely lost to the real world logistical issues.
